Our Commitment to the Land

The land surrounding our Quinta is an important part of our story. Like much of the Monchique hills, it was ravaged by the Great Wildfire of 2018, leaving behind a landscape that is still recovering today.

Caring for this land has become one of our family’s long-term commitments. Our aim is to help restore a healthier, more resilient landscape by encouraging native species such as Monchique oak, cork oak and medronheiros, while gradually reducing invasive species including acacia and non-native eucalyptus. By working with the natural character of the land, we hope to create an environment that is better able to withstand future wildfires, prolonged drought and the changing climate.

Alongside restoring the native woodland, we are introducing carefully chosen local fruit and nut trees that are naturally suited to the region. These productive species will not only provide food but also contribute to healthier soils, greater biodiversity and a more varied landscape that supports native birds, pollinators and wildlife.

This is a long-term journey rather than a quick transformation. Every season brings new growth, and each tree we plant is a small investment in the future of this remarkable place. We hope that, over time, the land will become richer in biodiversity, more resilient to the challenges ahead, and a place where both nature and people can flourish together.
